Crown & Bridge Work
Why Is Crown & Bridge Work So Important?
Our precision-crafted crowns and bridges restore function and aesthetics while preventing further complications. Our restorations look and feel indistinguishable from natural teeth.
Crown and bridge work is more than just a cosmetic fix – it's an investment in your long-term oral health and quality of life. When teeth are damaged by decay, fractures, or old fillings, crowns provide complete protection while preserving your remaining natural tooth structure.
For missing teeth, bridges prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting, maintain proper bite alignment, and restore your ability to chew and speak normally.
As a prosthodontist with advanced training beyond general dentistry, Dr. DJ Shin specializes in complex restorative procedures that require both technical precision and artistic vision. His expertise ensures your crowns and bridges not only function perfectly but look completely natural – matching the color, shape, and translucency of your surrounding teeth so precisely that no one will know they're restorations.
Using digital technology including 3D intraoral scanning and an in-house dental lab with 3D printing capabilities, we create restorations with exceptional fit and appearance while eliminating uncomfortable traditional impressions and reducing your treatment time. Whether you need a single crown or a complex full-mouth reconstruction, our specialized approach delivers results that improve both your dental health and your confidence.
Our crown and bridge procedures are led by Dr. DJ Shin, a Harvard-trained prosthodontist recognized as a Top Dentist by Washingtonian Magazine, who brings an engineer's precision and an artist's eye to every restoration.
Unlike general dental offices, we utilize digital smile design technology to preview your results before treatment begins, ensuring your complete satisfaction. Our in-house dental lab and 3D printing capabilities mean faster turnaround times and superior quality control, while our digital impression system eliminates uncomfortable traditional molds.

Post Operative Instructions: Final Restoration (Dental Crown)
Congratulations on receiving your final dental crown! Following these post-operative instructions will help ensure the success and longevity of your restoration. Please carefully read and follow the guidelines below:
1. Oral Hygiene:
- Brush your teeth gently twice a day using a soft-bristle toothbrush.
- Use a non-abrasive toothpaste to avoid damaging the crown.
- Floss your teeth daily, paying attention to the area around the crown.
- Rinse your mouth with an alcohol-free mouthwash to maintain oral hygiene.
2. Eating and Drinking:
- Avoid consuming hot food or beverages until the local anesthesia has worn off to prevent accidental burns.
- Be cautious when biting or chewing on hard foods. While the crown is durable, it is important to protect it from excessive force.
- Try to avoid sticky or chewy foods that may dislodge or damage the crown.
3. Sensitivity:
- It is normal to experience some sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures for a few days after the crown placement.
- If the sensitivity persists or worsens over time, contact your dentist for further evaluation.
4. Discomfort or Pain:
- It is common to experience mild discomfort or soreness around the treated tooth and gums for a few days.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, can be taken as directed to alleviate any discomfort. Follow your dentist's recommendations.
5. Avoiding Damage to the Crown:
- Do not chew on hard objects, such as ice, pens, or fingernails, as it can cause damage to the crown.
- Be cautious when grinding or clenching your teeth, especially if you have a history of bruxism (teeth grinding). Consider wearing a nightguard to protect your teeth and crown while sleeping.
- Regular Dental Appointment
- Follow your dentist's recommended schedule for routine examinations and professional cleanings.
With proper care, our high-quality crowns and bridges typically last 10-15 years, and many can last considerably longer.
The longevity of your restoration depends on several factors including your oral hygiene habits, dietary choices, and whether you have conditions like teeth grinding or clenching.
Dr. Shin creates crowns and bridges using premium materials selected specifically for your unique situation and bite forces. For the longest-lasting results, we recommend regular dental check-ups, daily flossing around your crown or bridge, avoiding extremely hard foods, and wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth.
If you notice any changes in your restoration over time, contact us promptly for an evaluation, as early intervention can often extend the life of your crown or bridge.

At Prostho Endo Dental Specialists, Dr. Shin selects from a variety of high-quality materials based on your specific needs, aesthetic goals, and functional requirements.
For front teeth where aesthetics are paramount, we often recommend all-ceramic or porcelain restorations that perfectly mimic the translucency and color of natural teeth.
For back teeth that endure stronger chewing forces, we might suggest zirconia, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or in some cases, gold alloys for their exceptional durability. Our digital smile design technology allows us to show you how different materials will look in your mouth before making a final decision.
During your consultation, Dr. Shin will discuss the advantages of each material option and help you select the best choice for your particular situation, considering factors like location of the tooth, your bite forces, aesthetic expectations, and budget.
