Here are some things to expect:
Bleeding
Bite on gauze with firm pressure for 30–60 minutes.
Some oozing is normal for the first 24 hours.
Avoid spitting, sucking, or using a straw for 48 hours.
Swelling & Pain
Swelling peaks at 48–72 hours and then subsides.
Use ice packs (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) for the first 24 hours. Take prescribed or OTC pain medication as directed.
Diet
Stick to a soft, cool diet for the first few days (smoothies, yogurt, mashed potatoes).
Avoid hot, crunchy, spicy, or chewy foods.
Stay well hydrated but do not use a straw.
Oral Hygiene
Do not rinse your mouth for 24 hours.
After 24 hours, gently rinse with warm salt water (1 tsp salt in 8 oz water) 2–3 times daily.
