Endodontics

Surgical and nonsurgical root canal therapy using Zeiss microscope and Gentlewave technology

Endodontics

Endodontics focuses on treating the interior of the tooth, often necessary when the soft tissue inside the root canal becomes infected or inflamed. If left untreated, this can lead to pain and potential tooth loss due to abscess formation, potentially requiring extraction. Endodontic treatment effectively clears the infection and safeguards the tooth from future infections.

Nonsurgical Root Canal Treatment is a common procedure in endodontics, boasting a success rate of over 90-95%. However, sometimes root canals may fail due to factors such as bacteria resistant to treatment, biofilm formation, or inadequate initial treatment.

Root anatomy can be complex, with numerous small branches off the main canal where infection may persist despite treatment. In such cases, an Apicoectomy may be necessary to surgically remove the infected tissue along with the root tip. Apicoectomy involves surgically sectioning the ends of the root tips and sealing the root to prevent re-infection, sometimes requiring bone grafting for larger defects.
GentleWave technology offers enhanced cleaning of root canals, reaching complex tiny branches unreachable by traditional systems, allowing for a more conservative treatment approach. Gentlewave utilizes acoustic energy to thoroughly clean the deepest and most intricate parts of the root canal system, resulting in a more conservative approach, reduced post-operative pain, fewer visits, and predictable outcomes. Increased success rate of Non-Surgical Root Canals translates to reducing the chance of Apicoectomy and/or Extraction.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The first step is scheduling a brief appointment with an Endodontist to examine your tooth and confirm your dentist's diagnosis. Following the consultation visit, we'll arrange your root canal visit with the GentleWave procedure. During this procedure, the treating dentist will work to save your tooth by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting the root canals mechanically and chemically, using both dental instruments and the GentleWave System. You'll be in and out of our office quickly, similar to a dental filling appointment. After the root canal treatment, you'll receive a temporary filling.

Following the root canal procedure, it's essential to schedule an appointment with your restorative dentist to restore your tooth with a permanent filling and/or a crown.

The GentleWave Procedure is minimally invasive, utilizing a powerful vortex of procedure fluids and acoustic
energy to clean the deepest, most complex portions of the root canal system, minimizing manual instrumentation.
