Facial Aesthetics & Botox
Why Botox Is More Than Just Cosmetic
At Prostho Cosmetic Dentistry, our approach to Botox goes beyond simply “freezing” wrinkles, focusing instead on subtle enhancement that preserves your natural expressiveness while softening the lines that age your appearance.

As dental professionals, we bring unique advantages to facial aesthetics. Our extensive training in facial anatomy and precise injection techniques allows us to target specific muscles with exceptional accuracy. The result is balanced, harmonious rejuvenation that looks refreshed, never overdone. Our treatments can soften forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines while maintaining your ability to express emotions naturally.
Beyond cosmetic applications, we also utilize Botox therapeutically to address jaw tension from TMJ disorders, providing relief from chronic headaches and facial pain. For patients with “gummy smiles,” strategic Botox placement can create a more balanced smile appearance by relaxing the upper lip muscles.
These quick, 10-15 minute treatments can be easily incorporated into your regular dental visits for convenient care.

At Prostho Cosmetic Dentistry, our approach to Botox is distinguished by our dental expertise and comprehensive understanding of facial aesthetics. Unlike med-spas where treatments may be performed by minimally trained staff, our Botox services are provided by doctors with extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and muscle function, ensuring precise placement for optimal results with minimal risk of complications.
We further differentiate our service through our personalized, conservative philosophy that focuses on enhancing your natural appearance rather than creating an artificial look. Before any treatment, we conduct a detailed facial analysis, observing your dynamic expressions to develop a tailored plan that addresses your specific concerns while preserving natural movement.
For therapeutic applications like TMJ treatment, we incorporate diagnostic assessments of your jaw function to precisely target the overactive muscles causing discomfort.
Our patients particularly appreciate our attention to comfort, with techniques that significantly reduce injection discomfort, and our commitment to natural results—ensuring you look refreshed and rejuvenated rather than “done.”
Experience facial aesthetics with the same precision and care you've come to expect from your dental treatments—schedule your Botox consultation today.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox
Please follow these guidelines in preparation for your visit:
- At Endodontic Excellence, BOTOX® or XEOMIN® therapy is intended for treatment of dental and oral conditions such as Bruxisum only.
- Contraindications to BOTOX® or XEOMIN® include known allergic reactions to botulinum toxin, certain neuromuscular disorders, pregnancy, and/or nursing. Please provide us with a comprehensive medical history during your consultation visit to ensure this treatment is ideal for you.
Please follow these post-care instructions:
- BOTOX® or XEOMIN® are fragile proteins. For the first 24 hours, avoid any activities that may denature them.
o Avoid heat– sunlight, hot shower/ bath, strenuous exercise
o Avoid rubbing or massaging the injection site
o Avoid lying on your face
o Refrain from any alcohol consumption
- You will start to notice initial results of the treatment within 10 to 14 days after the injection(s).
- You may schedule your follow-up visit three weeks after the initial injection(s) for a dosage adjustment if necessary.
- The average duration of the results is 3-4 months. It is important to maintain regular injection intervals to sustain optimal therapeutic results.
- With repeated treatments, the targeted muscles undergo atrophy, requiring less amounts of BOTOX® or XEOMIN® given at reduced frequency to maintain similar results.
We look forward to improving your quality of life through Botox therapy. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us at (301) 307 8306 or e-mail: hello@prostho-dent.com.
Thank you for choosing us for your facial aesthetic treatment. To ensure the best results and minimize side effects, please follow these post-treatment instructions carefully.
Immediately After Treatment
- You may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, or slight bruising at the injection sites—this is normal and typically resolves within a few hours to a few days.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated area for at least 4 hours after treatment.
- Remain upright (no lying down or bending over) for 4 hours following the procedure.
For the First 24 Hours
- Do not exercise, do hot yoga, or engage in strenuous activity. This can increase blood flow and affect your results.
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or tanning beds.
- Do not drink alcohol or take blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) unless medically necessary.
- Do not apply makeup or skincare products to the injection sites until the next day.
Additional Tips
- Results typically start to show in 3–7 days, with full results visible around 14 days.
- Mild bruising can be treated with Arnica gel or cold compresses if needed.
- Do not schedule any facial treatments (e.g., facials, peels, microneedling) for at least 1 week after treatment.
- You may do gentle facial expressions (e.g., smiling, frowning) to help the product settle but don’t overdo it.
Follow-Up
- If this is your first treatment, we may schedule a follow-up in 2 weeks to assess your results and make any adjustments if needed.
- BOTOX results typically last 3–4 months. Regular maintenance helps train the muscles and prolong results.
Contact Us If You Experience:
- Severe or prolonged swelling or bruising
- Headache or flu-like symptoms lasting more than 48 hours
- Vision changes, drooping eyelids, or difficulty swallowing

At Prostho Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide Botox treatments for both cosmetic and therapeutic purposes across multiple facial areas. Cosmetically, we address forehead lines (horizontal creases), glabellar lines (vertical “11” lines between eyebrows), crow's feet (eye corner wrinkles), bunny lines (nose bridge wrinkles), and perioral lines (fine lines around the mouth).
Therapeutically, we target masseter muscles for TMJ tension relief and headache reduction, as well as precise areas to correct gummy smiles by repositioning the upper lip. Results typically appear within 3-7 days, with full effect visible by 14 days.
For most patients, results last 3-4 months initially, often extending to 4-6 months with regular maintenance as muscles become “retrained” over time. Factors affecting longevity include treatment areas (forehead typically lasts longer than crow's feet), dosage used, your metabolic rate, and facial muscle strength.
During your consultation, we'll provide a personalized timeline based on your specific treatment areas and individual factors. Ready to schedule your Botox treatment?

At Prostho Cosmetic Dentistry, we've refined our injection technique to minimize discomfort during Botox treatments. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch lasting just seconds per injection, with many comparing it to a “2 out of 10” on the pain scale.
We further enhance comfort through ultra-fine needles, optional topical numbing cream, and strategic ice application. Side effects are typically minimal and temporary, with potential for slight redness or pinpoint bleeding at injection sites that resolves within 15-30 minutes. Occasional mild bruising may occur, but can be minimized by avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements (like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E) for 48 hours before treatment.
The most significant advantage of Botox is the lack of downtime. You can immediately return to normal activities with just a few temporary restrictions: avoid lying down for 4 hours, exercise for 24 hours, and facial massages for 2 weeks post-treatment.
These minor precautions help ensure optimal results by preventing the Botox from migrating to unintended areas. Still concerned about discomfort?

Botox provides significant relief for TMJ disorders and associated headaches by targeting the source of the problem, overactive jaw muscles. When strategically injected into the masseter (main chewing muscle) and temporalis muscles, Botox partially relaxes these muscles, reducing the excessive clenching and grinding forces that lead to pain, headaches, and joint damage.
Most patients experience a reduction in symptoms within 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, with pain relief lasting 3-6 months per session. This therapeutic approach is particularly beneficial because it addresses the actual cause of discomfort rather than just managing symptoms.
The procedure typically takes just 10-15 minutes, with results that often improve with subsequent treatments as muscles gradually become reconditioned to function with less tension. At Prostho Cosmetic Dentistry, we combine Botox therapy with comprehensive TMJ evaluation and complementary treatments like custom nightguards for optimal results.
If you've been suffering from chronic jaw pain, tension headaches, or persistent migraines, Botox could provide the relief you've been seeking. Contact us to schedule a TMJ evaluation and discover if therapeutic Botox is right for your specific condition.
While the same product (Botox) is used for both cosmetic and therapeutic applications, there are significant differences in treatment approach, injection technique, and insurance coverage. Cosmetic Botox focuses primarily on wrinkle reduction and facial aesthetics, targeting expression muscles in the upper face to smooth lines and create a more youthful appearance.
Therapeutic Botox addresses functional issues and pain conditions, targeting larger muscle groups like the masseters and temporalis muscles for TMJ disorders, using different injection patterns and often higher dosages. From an insurance perspective, cosmetic applications are typically not covered by insurance and are priced per unit or treatment area.
Therapeutic applications may receive partial insurance coverage, particularly when treating diagnosed TMJ disorders, chronic migraines, or other functional impairments.
At Prostho Cosmetic Dentistry, we're uniquely qualified to provide both cosmetic and therapeutic Botox, often combining approaches for comprehensive treatment. For example, many TMJ patients benefit from both therapeutic masseter injections and cosmetic forehead treatments, as chronic pain often leads to increased forehead tension and wrinkles.
